Obituary of Jo Nell Sullivan
Jo Nell Harrod Sullivan, age 84, of Frankfort, was called Home on Sunday, March 5, 2017.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky on December 17, 1932, Jo Nell was the daughter of the late Justus Goebel Harrod and Allie Mae Cummins Harrod. She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1950 and was valedictorian of her senior class. In 1954 she graduated from Eastern Kentucky College, with a double major in Chemistry and Biology. Jo Nell married her high school sweetheart, the late David Mitchell “Mike” Sullivan, in 1954. She and her husband owned and operated Sullivan’s Pharmacy in the 1960’s and she later retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation after 37 years of service.
She was a faithful member of Graefenburg Baptist Church where she was still an active participant in the Grace Notes Senior Adult Choir. She was also a long time member of Phi Beta Psi Cancer Sorority, the Frankfort Chapter of Kentucky DAR and the EKU Pioneers.
Jo Nell is survived by her daughters, Debbie Sullivan Wagoner (Billy) of Murray and Karen Sullivan Harrod (David) of Frankfort. She was the beloved “Doe” to her four granddaughters, Blair Wagoner (Keith) of Waller, TX, Katie Wagoner of Louisville, KY, Lindsay Harrod Roberts (Jeremy) and Michelle Harrod Dawson (Seth) both of Frankfort. Her favorite title was being the great grandmother of Adalynn and Aniston Roberts who were her pride and joy. Other survivors include her niece, Sherry Dryden; her Sullivan nieces & nephews; her sister-in-law, Jodie Hillard; and her Bible study partner & dear friend, Betty Chase. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Goebelene Dryden Singleton.
Visitation will be held at Rogers Funeral Home from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. The funeral service will be at 10 am on Thursday, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The officiants will be Pastor Philip Meade and Dr. Jay Padgett. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Roberts, Seth Dawson, Keith Rollins, Tucker Pridemore, Larry Austin, Darrell Snook, H.T. Bowman and Rick Woodside. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Kelly, Tommy Smith, Jerry Chase, Doug Smith, Dickie Russell, Rick Blackaby, Dwain Kincaid, and Mark Towe.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jo Nell’s memory are suggested to Graefenburg Baptist Church Playground Fund, 11288 Frankfort Road, Waddy KY 40076 or Phi Beta Psi Cancer Sorority, 1853 Haverwood Park, Lexington KY 40514.
