Obituary of Virginia Halmhuber

Virginia Ackman Halmhuber, 88, wife of the late George Halmhuber, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at home with her family in Lawrenceburg, KY. Born October 11, 1926 on the "Dry Ridge" in Grant County, Kentucky, Mrs. Halmhuber (Mrs. Virginia to many of her family and friends) was the daughter of the late Clarence and Flora Ackman. Prior to beginning her teaching career, which formally began at Frankfort High School in Frankfort, KY, Mrs. Halmhuber earned a Bachelors Degree from Georgetown College followed by a Masters Degree from the University of Kentucky. After marrying and starting a family, she became a fifteen-plus year substitute teacher on an almost full-time basis. She quickly became known as one of the "Unsinkable Subs." Mrs. Halmhuber had a love for gardening, genealogy, and was a voracious reader and writer. Mrs. Halmhuber is survived by her son, George (Mary Cope) of Lawrenceburg; a grandson, Will Halmhuber; sister-in-law, Mary Breeden of Lexington, KY; and granddaughter (by marriage) Bailey Pedersen. In addition to extended family and close friends, she also leaves behind her beloved dog, "Whitey" and the overly-fed neighborhood cat, "Calie." The family has planned a Funeral Service for Mrs. Halmhuber on Monday, February 9th at 1:00 PM at Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort, KY followed by interment in the Frankfort Cemetery. The service will be preceded by visitation from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
