Obituary of Honorio “Nonie” Buquid
Please share a memory of Honorio “Nonie” to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Honorio “Nonie” Buquid passed away on September 9, 2024, at the age of 82.
Nonie was always the life of the party and enjoyed making people laugh. He loved his family, playing golf, football, cruises, and games of chance. Nonie emigrated to the United States in 1970 and settled in Washington, D.C. where he met his wife in 1972 while crashing an anniversary party. He raised his children in Maryland for over 20 years before retiring from his accounting job with Air Cargo, Inc. and moving to Kentucky to spend his retirement on the greens.
In Kentucky, Nonie became a parishioner of Good Shepherd Church and a member of the Philippine American Golf Association of Kentucky. Nonie and Tessa began taking annual cruises on Carnival Cruise Lines where Nonie would befriend every Filipino on the ship. He loved finding reminders of home, and treated his family to meals at the Nipa Hut restaurant in Kissimmee, Florida whenever he was visiting there.
Nonie was born in Marigondon, Philippines to Leodigario and Julia (Arellano) Buquid and was the fifth of six children. He was preceded in death by both parents and his five siblings, Milagros Buquid, Samson Buquid (Violy), Minerva Buquid, Honorato Buquid (Salvacion), and Rafael Buquid.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Tessa Buquid; two children, Jude Buquid (Maggie) and Sarah Jordan (James); three grandchildren, Wyatt Buquid, Sophia Buquid, and Amelia Jordan; as well as several nieces and nephews residing throughout North America and in the Philippines.
A service in Nonie’s honor will be held at Good Shepherd Church in Frankfort, Kentucky on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Visitation begins at 10am and service begins at 11am. After the service, Nonie will be interred at Frankfort Cemetery. Lunch will be served afterwards at the VFW Hall on 2nd Street.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Good Shepherd Catholic Church Building Fund.
