Obituary of Myra Aitken

Myra Hill Aitken, 93 passed away on February 21, 2018 at her home in Frankfort, KY.  She was born on May 9, 1924 in Herald, KY to Dr. Alexander Lackey and Mary Pumphrey Hill.

Myra grew up in Prestonsburg, KY.  She graduated from Prestonsburg High School.  After high school she attended Western KY University in Bowling Green, KY where she obtained a certificate in secretarial studies.  Following her school years Myra launched on a carrier with The Commonwealth of Kentucky that spanned over forty years serving in all three branches of state government.  Her finial posting was as a legal secretary for Justices Edward P. Hill and James B. Stephenson of the Kentucky Supreme Court.

Myra married Kenneth Aitken in 1947 in Frankfort, KY.  They were happily married for 70 years. A loyal member of First United Methodist Church Frankfort, Myra was involved in numerous church activities including the Chancel Choir, Methodist Women, and church alters floral displays for many years.  She was a long time member of the Frankfort Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Frankfort Country Club, Capital City Coral, and Lexington Round Dancers.  A truly talented floral designer she won numerus awards for floral renderings that she created from her own cutting garden.  She and husband Kenneth often performed in talent shows showcasing her excellent singing voice.

Myra was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Alexander L. and Mary P. Hill, daughter Elizabeth A. Perkins, brother Jack K. Hill, and sister Edna H. Amato.

Myra is survived by her husband Kenneth P. Aitken, SR of Frankfort, KY; her son Kenneth P. (Leslie) Aitken, JR of Georgetown, KY; her sister Mary DeShazer of Frankfort, KY; Grandchildren Heather Davis, Helen Aitken, Scott Aitken, Sarah Aitken, Payton Aitken, and Mary Perkins;  six great-grandchildren;  nine nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Rogers Funeral Home from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday, February 24th.   A Funeral service conducted by Rev. Jack Brewer will follow visitation at 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow at Frankfort Cemetery.  Kenneth Scott Aitken SR, Kenneth Scott Aitken, JR, Robert Aitken, Bob Amato, Bill Amato, and Jim DeShazer will be serving as pallbearers.
