My deepest sympathy to each of you for your loss. Deep sorrow fills your hearts at this time. May you find comfort and strength in Almighty God. He is the Giver of life. It saddened him when we shed tears of sorrow. Through his Word he gives us comfort and hope for those who have fallen asleep in death.

Dear Julian’s Family -
Like many parents across the state of Kentucky, we trusted Julian with providing guidance and development of our children with group activities / meetings under the YMCA of Kentucky along with our school’s Y teacher leaders. We knew our children were in trusted and kind hands the first time we met the gentle giant with the big infectious smile and outgoing personality. Julian was a natural in reaching out and connecting with pre-teens and teenagers to help them learn more about themselves as individuals, develop skills to work together as a team, share thoughts respectively, deal with controversy, and provided learning opportunities about the US, other countries, and our state of Kentucky. More importantly, Julian taught our children how to be a friend, have fun and enjoy life. Our hearts are saddened to learn of Julian’s passing. Our family thought very highly of Julian and have fond memories of him during our many Y years. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
With sincere sympathy,
David and Jonell Dailey

There are no words to describe the feeling of losing such a beautiful soul. Julian was not only my brother but my friend. From the day our parents married he became the best brother a girl could ever have. I will truly miss his presence and the earth feels a lot less alive without his spirit. Our family was so blessed to have him and now he is with Our Lord resting and hopefully looking after us all, especially Katie and Em...I know his spirit will live on in that beautiful little girl. Katie, I will always be here for you to the end of time...Emerson...you are one lucky little girl to have such a GREAT DAD!

I didn't know Julian very well but he always treated me like an old friend. I probably haven't seen him in 15 years but who could forget this guy. I will always remember his laugh and how he made everyone around him so comfortable. He is just one of those people with a beautiful soul and it was always a joy being around Julian. I know there aren't enough words to ease the pain of his passing but he is loved and remembered by so many. Thank you for sharing him with the world and it is my honor that he would call me a friend.
Extending my love and prayers to Julian's family and especially his wife and children. I know he will always be with you all.

Right now everyone is gathering in Frankfort to remember Julian, and I'm in North Carolina, wrapping up my work before heading home to Kentucky for Christmas. I stopped working to write this remembrance of Julian, a lovely man who I got to know years ago when we worked together at the Kentucky YMCA. Julian's obituary rings true for me. I remember his love of his dogs, his devotion to his family, and his commitment to the Y. I also remember his passion for food, his warmth, and his smile. What is hard to write into an obituary, though, is that Julian inspired people, and I believe his legacy of inspiring young people will unfold in the unknowable future. Over the time I knew him, I'm certain Julian did his part to improve the world through individual acts of courteousness, kindness, and humor. I remember that he was beloved by the kids at the Kentucky YMCA, and I remember marveling at his ability to make young people feel heard, appreciated, and joyful. The world can be a difficult place, and Julian made it feel easier for the kids he worked with through the Kentucky YMCA. I pray that some of those young people whose lives he touched will work for justice, understanding, and love. That was what I saw Julian model in his time as one of my coworkers at the YMCA, and I will miss him and the light he brought to the world.

What an amazing guy!! I worked with him at Applebees in 1993, I stayed there for 23 years but only because he saved me from quitting one night!! He also went with me as a hidden wing man on my first date with my now Husband, we have now been together for 24 years!! He was just like a giant Teddy Bear and I was shocked to hear he is not going to be around to light up people’s life. My prayers are with the family and my deepest sympathy, I know he will be missed by all!!

I first met Julian participating in the YMCA of KY events. The love and energy that he brought to those programs is what I remember the most. As a high school student he spoke to me in a way that made me feel respected and impowered. You couldn’t have a conversation with Julian and not leave with the biggest smile on your face. I only knew Julian in passing but his love for life and the Frankfort community was contagious. Julian was more than a good person, he was an invested community member. Frankfort is a better place because of the work that Julian did and he will be missed dearly.

I first remember Julian from Burns Middle School. He was a 6th grader when I came into the 7th grade. I didn’t know Julian then, but I remember seeing him around. He was the type of person that you noticed and never forgot. I came to know him at Kentucky State University. We were both from Owensboro and that was all of the commonality we needed to become friends. We also worked together one summer at the Resident Engineer’s office in Owensboro.
From there on, I only saw Julian sparingly. But whenever I ran across him, he always grabbed me up in a huge bear hug. I will miss that. We would see Julian as a waiter at Applebee’s. He was the absolute best waiter, never messing up an order all while never having to write even the largest order down.
I saw Julian only a few months ago at the Capital Day School Picnic and was looking forward to bumping into him more often at school functions, but that was to be the last time. Very few passings have touched me with such sadness. Julian was truly a light in this world, one of the few people that I am better for having known. God bless and keep your family in this time of great loss.

Julian was one of our very favorite people, a guy so full of love for everyone that there was no room for any darkness in his soul. He was simply one of the best things about living in Frankfort. Marrying Katie and then becoming Emerson's Daddy were further proof of the huge reservoir of his love. He will be greatly missed, forever.

I don’t even remember how Julian and I met; it seems like I’ve known him forever. He was the kind of person who becomes a friend instantly. We both loved animals and helping all of God’s creatures, those with two legs and four. When we would go to lunch together, we knew that one hour would turn into two or three! I haven’t seen Julian much in the past few years, but his love for his wife and daughter was obvious to everyone who knew him. I share a small part of their grief. The world was definitely a better place for Julian having been in it. Rest In Peace, my friend, until we meet again.

I'm so heartbroken for Katie and Emerson. And our small town just lost a personality who lit it up like a bright star.
I have cried many tears for Katie and Emerson because they loved Julian so. I know there is little to say to assuage your heartbreak.
Julian was one of the purest of kind people. He always saw the positive side of things.
If only we all had a heart as big and loving as his; a smile every day, and joyful laughter.
The lessons you have taught, friend, are that people matter and you can never pay enough kindness towards your fellow human beings
Thank you for sharing your joyful life with us and for teaching us all to appreciate every day as you did.
