Obituary of George Koenig
Koenig, George Raymond, 92, of Bardstown, Frankfort, and Cincinnati, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017. He was a member of St. Joseph parish in Bardstown and Good Shepherd Church in Frankfort, Ky. for 52 years. At Good Shepherd, George and his wife Edna volunteered for 34 years with the St. Vincent de Paul Store, and he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
George graduated from Purdue University and from Mid-shipman's school at Notre Dame. He was a Navy veteran, serving as lieutenant in Subic Bay, Philippines and Great Lakes Naval Base, Illinois, and was member of the Frankfort VFW. He worked as a chemist with National Distillers in Cincinnati and as plant superintendent of Old Granddad in Frankfort, retiring in 1989 after 43 years of service.
George was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas Koenig and Dr. Robert Koenig of Cincinnati. He is survived by his wife of more than 67 years, Edna (Bien) Koenig, and their six children: Joe Koenig and Patricia Hagan (Fred) of Bardstown; Kathleen Federle (Philip) of Seattle, WA.; Marilyn Nais Cook of Cumming, GA; George Thomas Koenig (Pam) of Louisville; and Theresa Tanner (Barry) of Harrogate, TN. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Merle Ann Koenig of Covington, KY and Carolyn Honkomp (Lee) or Cincinnati, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26th followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Rogers Funeral Home is coordinating arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
