I was one of the many who had the honor and pleasure of working with Quarles. Interactions with Quarles almost always left me with a smile on my face. RIP Mr. Arnold.

Quarles was my colleague from when I started in 1980 with the Division of Water until he retired in 1988. He was a valuable colleague and friend. In recent years after I retired in 2003, it was nice to see Quarles at the monthly lunches organized by Mike Mills. My condolence to Quarles' family.

To the Arnold Family/Chris, I can remember Mr. Arnold being at functions when we were in high school. Just a sweet nice man. Sending my condolences and prayers that you will find peace in knowing that he is present with the Lord. Kym

I worked with Quarles in the Water Quality Branch, Division of Water. He was a treasured member of that group, always willing to work, help others and add humor to whatever was happening there. I will miss him but carry so many good thoughts about him. One of his sayings I use a lot, if it was rather windy he would say it was " pretty airish out "..
Skip Call who worked with us extends his sympathy to the family and considered him a very special person and will miss him too.

Quarles was my friend and neighbor for 24+ years. I've not known a nicer and more considerate person. My home is next to that of Quarles and Ailleen, but at times I wondered if I was his tenant. When it came to yard work, home maintenance, etc., "Sarge" gently called the shots. I'll not soon forget his chuckle when he found something humorous. I'll miss you, Quarles.

Quarles helped get me my first state government job back in 1975. He was a true friend, confidant, and mentor. I respected him as a man and patriot. We lost another of the GREATEST GENERATION! He was always glad to see me and I was always glad to hear his stories. One colloquialism of his I remember...he was talking about a friend of his who was bow-legged. "He was so bow-legged, he couldn't hem a hog in a ditch!" I heard that an engineer he was working with didn't cuss. I asked Quarles if that was really true. I couldn't imagine a grown man that didn't cuss. Quarles said..."That's right. He doesn't cuss, but he says the nastiest DRAT you ever heard!" May Jesus bless Quarles and his family!
