John was a key mentor and role model for me, the reason I went to Transylvania and received the financial aid and work study that enabled me to attend and graduate, the reason I went to seminary and added a graduate theological degree to my law degrees, the reason I I became ordained as a minister in the Christian Church(Disciples of Christ) with John officiating in the ordination, and ultimately the reason I was selected to be the President of Franklin College, Indiana.
My 101 year old Mother--Alice Spiers Martin Davis Cheatham O'Connell--likewise has a story of appreciation for John.
I'm sorry that neither of us can be at the visitation, celebration, or luncheon. I would love to see Mary Margaret, Cabell, and Larkin.

We send our deepest sympathy and love to all of "Parson's" family from children to great grandchildren. John was perhaps the most devoted person to Camp Greenbrier and all of its children for decades. He influenced three generations of campers by his friendship, guidance, and kindness. John and Mary Elizabeth will indeed be missed.

Greatest sympathy to all the Family of this delightful gentleman. I've known him since 1949, at camp greenbrier. The next 3 generations are dear to me for the same reason. His loss is certainly a celebration of a long life, well lived, and with such meaning to so many. Blessings to all of you !

I was a staff member at Camp Greenbrier from 1986-1996, and 2006-2008. Parson Chenault was a wonderful man, and I always enjoyed visiting with him during his time at Camp Greenbrier. Thinking of Parson Chenault brings back treasured memories of many performances at Camp Greenbrier in "Moot's Musical." I always looked forward to Parson's arrival at Camp around a week before the Musical, and the evening practices in the Play Hall, running through the great old songs (all of which are embedded in my memory forever). Parson Chenault directed the Musical in 1993, and guided me in a piece of "special music" that was part of a proposal to my wife. When I returned to Camp Greenbrier for 2006-2008 to be a part of the Leadership Academy, I was so pleasantly surprised to see Parson continuing to direct the musical in his 90's. My condolences to Parson's family - he will be greatly missed, but always remembered as part of Camp Greenbrier's history.

The world has lost a great man, and we have lost a dear friend. The Camp Greenbrier family is very sad, yet our souls are smiling for our beloved Parson. Rest in Peace, dear Parson. We will love you and miss you forever.

My heartfelt prayers for your entire family, I had the pleasure of knowing this wonderful man, through my Great Uncle Bob Lewis, I have visited with these two wonderful men on many occasions, and the last of Uncle Bob Life, John would come and visit him at the Nursing Home. I have heard so many stories of their fishing days, getting to trouble as kids and the love between these two great friends. John preached Uncle Bob's funeral many years ago, and I missed my visits with them.......Heaven gained a great servant and angel, I know Uncle Bob was so glad to see his dear friend John again......From the family of Frances Lewis, Moore, Paula Moore Woolums.....
