Elizabeth Townsend Sandifer Gattis was born in Danville, KY on November 21, 1919, the daughter of Henry Green Sandifer and Winnie Butt Sandifer. She passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Walter R. Gattis Jr., and her oldest daughter, Margaret Gattis Duren. Mrs. Gattis is survived by her younger daughter, Mary Gattis, and her granddaughter, Jesse Shamon. Mrs. Gattis graduated from Danville High School in 1938, from Centre College in 1941, and from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a degree in library science in 1942. She worked in several college and public libraries early in her career, and served as Dir. of Technical Services for the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives from 1972 to 1981. Mr. and Mrs. Gattis lived in Texas, North Carolina, Ohio, Missouri, Massachusetts, Illinois, and Kentucky. Mrs. Gattis had lived in Frankfort for 42 years at the time of her death. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at Rogers Funeral Home from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday and the funeral service will be at the First United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, the Shelby County Humane Society, or L.I.F.E. House for Animals.
