Obituary of Pierson VanNorman

Pierson Franklin VanNorman, 94, died Sunday December 28, 2014 at the Arbors Assisted Living Facility in Delaware, Ohio. He was born December 19, 1920 in Arcadia Township, New York to the late Albert and Eloise (Rowe) VanNorman. Pierson graduated from Anderson (Indiana) University in 1945 with a Bachelor of Theology degree. He married Alvena Jarvis on August 14, 1945. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2000.Pierson pastored Church of God congregations in New York, Iowa, Louisiana, and Mississippi before moving to Frankfort, Ky. in 1955 to become the founding pastor of the First Church of God. He also worked at Sears, Roebuck as Advertising Manager and then as Statistician for the Kentucky State Highway Department. He was known for his sense of humor, story telling, Bible teaching, and his love of Christian hymns. Pierson is survived by four sons: David (Brenda) VanNorman of Midland, Mich., Paul (Debbie) VanNorman of Dublin, Ohio, Daniel VanNorman of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Philip VanNorman of Findlay, Ohio; 3 grandchildren: John (Michelle) VanNorman of Dublin, Ohio, Julia (Nate) Tice of Findlay, Ohio, and Jeremy VanNorman of Clarkston, Mich.; and 2 great-granddaughters: Anna and Adeline VanNorman of Dublin, Ohio. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Funeral services will take place 11:00 am Friday January 2, 2015 at Frankfort First Church of God, 1029 Burlington Lane. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pierson's family will receive friends at the church Friday from 10:00 am until time of services. Donations in Pierson's memory may be made to the First Church of God.
