Obituary of Joan Reagan

Joan Mary Gardner Reagan passed away on September 12, 2014. Mrs. Reagan was the widow of Harry C. Reagan. Mrs. Reagan was born on March 29, 1925, in Warminster, England. Her parents were the late W.J. Gardner and Dorothy Snelgrove Gardner. Mrs. Reagan attended and graduated with highest honors from the John Wycliffe Academy in Bristol, England. During the Second World War, Mrs. Reagan was employed by the British telegraph service. Her job was to effect telegraph communications between the British War Admiralty and trans-Atlantic convoys. During the Battle of Britain, her work station was subjected to aerial bombardments. In late 1943, she met Mr. Harry Reagan, an American soldier, who was part of the armed build-up in Britian that preceded the invasion of Europe. Harry and Joan were married October 30, 1948, in Clevedon, England. The following year, 1949, they travelled to the United States and settled in Northern Kentucky. Mrs. Reagan was a long-time member of East Frankfort Baptist Church since her arrival in Frankfort in 1963. Mrs. Reagan has three children — Stuart Reagan, Jennifer O’Nan (Jack), and Deborah Hancock (Seth). Her family includes five grandchildren — Stuart Reagan, Jr., Elizabeth Reagan Briggs (Chris), Megan O’Nan Greene (Kelly), Seth Walker Hancock, Jr., and Allison Reagan Hancock. She has two great-grandchildren, Reagan Annelise Briggs and Delaney Taylor Briggs. Services will be held at Rogers Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Monday, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Mrs. Reagan will be buried in the Frankfort Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Amercian Heart Association or the Franklin County Senior Activity Center.
