Obituary of Michael Nickles

Michael Anthony Nickles, age 70, died peacefully at his home on Friday, August 1, 2014. He was born August 29, 1943 to the late Louis J. and Maudie Brown Nickles. Mike was a graduate of Good Shepherd High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was an electrician who owned and operated his own business for forty years and was employed by union contractors at the Toyota Plant in Georgetown for over two decades. He also taught electrical courses at the Central Kentucky Vocational School for several years. Mike was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Locals 183 and 369 for forty-five years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed woodworking and engaging in spirited discussion and debate. Mike cherished spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul W. and Louis Nickles. Mike is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Marsha Goins Nickles, his daughter Mary Nickles, his son Michael A. Nickles, Jr. (Dana), and his grandchildren Jake and Rachel Nickles. Pallbearers will be V.G. Banta, Gary Bryant, Chris Gorman, Bill Johnson, Wade McGuire, Michael A. Nickles, Jr., John Sciantarelli and Baynham Spaulding. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Goins, Haney Johnson, Frank McGowan and Eddie Portwood. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at Rogers Funeral Home with Christian Vigil Prayer Service and affirmations beginning at 7:30 p.m. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Father Charles Howell officiating. Burial will be in the Frankfort Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy are encouraged to Hospice of the Bluegrass and the Frankfort Humane Society.
