Sophia Burke Martin, 74, wife of Ronald P. Martin, passed away early Tuesday morning in the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
Born in Frankfort on July 10, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Ezekiel and Charlotte Shearer Burke. A 1957 graduate of Elkhorn High School, she worked for National Distillers and the Ky. Dept. of Agriculture and spent time living in Owensboro, Madisonville, and Campbellsville. Mrs. Martin enjoyed clogging, line dancing, fishing, and attending Senior Citizens functions.
Along with her husband, she is also survived by a daughter, Jill Polly Kittinger (Bryan); a son, Donald Scott Polly (Pam); two sisters, Betty Lou McElmurray and Rosie Gordon; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Joan Hall, Geraldine Bassett, and Marlene Price.
Services will be held in Rogers Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Thursday with burial following in the Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be at Rogers from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. today, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday.
Rev. Billy Perkins will officiate the services.
Pallbearers will be Paul Todd, Steve Cox, Zachary Kittinger, Jacob Kittinger, Nathan Polly, Derek Polly, and Joshua Kittinger.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Arnold Clark, Frank Kemper, Dennis Blair, Don Dennis, Buddy Hall, David Todd, and Bonnie Reeves.
