Obituary of Jane Johnson

Jane Gibbs Johnson was promoted to the eternal kingdom on September 9, 2013. Born in Savannah, GA in 1923, Jane grew up in Clearwater, FL and Union City, TN. A graduate of Murray State University, she taught Spanish, speech, journalism and theatre at Hickman County High School in Clinton, KY. From 1964 until retiring in 1980, Jane taught Spanish and Journalism at Frankfort High School in Frankfort, KY. She was preceded by her beloved husband of 48 years, Joe R. Johnson, and is survived by three children, Joe Russell Johnson (Cheryl), Elizabeth Johnson Smither (Fantley), and Robert White Johnson (Jeff Nally); three grandchildren, F. Clay Smither, Matthew Russell Smither, and Adam Robert Nally-Johnson; and one great-grandson, Fantley Michael Smither. Jane was an active member of The Church of Ascension and the Silent Workers Circle, and served as a volunteer for the Frankfort Regional Medical Center. She was long-standing member and Regent of Daughters of the American Revolution, American Red Cross, Retired Teachers Association and International Exchange Program, where she took students on many trips to Spain and Mexico. Jane never met a stranger, man nor beast. Following a family gathering at the Frankfort Cemetery, please celebrate with family and friends at a memorial service at noon, Thursday September 12, 2013 at First Christian Church, 308 Ann Street, followed by a reception in First Christian Church Fellowship Hall honoring Jane's lifelong contribution to family and many favorite volunteer community activities.
