Obituary of Phillip Kerrick

Phillip Allen Kerrick, 57, husband of Janet Coleman Kerrick, passed away Monday evening in Lexington.
Born in Frankfort on June 17, 1956, he was the son of Bettye Jean Scott Kerrick and the late Earl Stanley Kerrick, and is also survived by a son, Alex Coleman Kerrick (Amanda); one grandchild, Jace Coleman Kerrick; a brother, Stanley S. Kerrick; three nieces, Debi Kerrick Barton, Emily H. Kerrick, and Caroline N. Kerrick; a nephew, Brian S. Kerrick; an aunt, Edythe Crady Kelly; and numerous cousins, great-cousins, and great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kerrick worked as a Development Officer for the Ky. Economic Development Authority from 1985 to 1994, and was Director of Economic Development for Winchester / Clark County Industrial Development from 1994 to 2004. From 2004 to 2010 he served as the Executive Director for the Capital City Economic / Industrial Development Authority. A member of the Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church, he received many professional awards and certifications including International Trade Service Specialist, Certified Economic Developer, Southern Industrial Development Council, Economic Development Institute, and American Economic Development Council. He served as President of the Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce for 2008-09 and was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
His greatest hobby was a love for every form of guitar and their music. He was lead guitarist for several central Kentucky bands, and most recently Stone Soup, a classic rock band, and lead guitarist for The Praise Team, The Christian band of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church, with Pastor Todd Lester officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at Rogers Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
Pall bearers will be Steve LeCompte, Gary Lee, David Scottow, Jay Hamon, John Brown, and Kim Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Building Fund at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
