Charles Donald "Don" Mattingly passed away on January 2, 2024 at the age of 91.
Born in Lebanon, Kentucky on March 8, 1932, Don was the son of the late Charles T. and Mary Margaret Hughes Mattingly. He graduated from St. Augustine School and Lebanon High School, and attended Bellarmine University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served in the Korean Conflict. Following his return home, he began work as a barber in Frankfort, Kentucky, an occupation he maintained for the rest of his working life.
Don was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. A lifelong lover of sports, he was a four year high school letterman in basketball, three year letterman in football, and one year letterman in baseball. He began playing golf after his time in the Navy, and played up to the age of 88.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Ann "Jo Ann" Schroff Mattingly, and his sons Charles Donald Mattingly, Jr. and Frederick James Mattingly. He was preceded in death by all eight of his siblings, including brothers James Hughes Mattingly, James Thomas Mattingly, William Robert Mattingly, Joseph Malcom Mattingly, and Harold Lewis Mattingly, and sisters Marita Englert, Martha Ann Boone, and Dorothy Louise Edelen.
A graveside service will be held in the Frankfort Cemetery at 12:00 pm Monday, January 8th. (Please stop at the front office and wait for the procession.) Visitation will precede the service at Rogers Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 am.
