Obituary of Gary Popp
Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gary Coleman Popp, husband of Beverly Popp, passed away in Enid, Oklahoma on April 21, 2023 at the age of 72.
Gary was born in Kenton County, Kentucky, on September 19, 1950 to the late Coleman Popp and Catherine House Popp. He attended and graduated from Anderson High School in Anderson, Indiana, and following graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1969. He served first in clerical duty, followed by sniper duty where he was recognized for excellent marksmanship. He was discharged in 1971 as a result of friendly fire bullet wounds in both of his legs. He went on to work for union laborers and the Kentucky Cabinet for Human Resources.
Gary and his first wife Linda Cauley Popp were baptized in the name of Jesus on January 1, 1975, at Christ Apostolic Temple in Owensboro, KY. They received the gift of the Holy Ghost and began to labor in the ministry. He was ordained as a licensed minister, and they served and started numerous churches, giving of themselves with dedication. Gary remained consecutively licensed with United Pentecostal Church International and the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ, retiring in 2010.
Gary was one who made a mark on people around him. He enjoyed talking about a wide variety of subjects, having a wealth of knowledge obtained through experience and study. His Lord, his ministerial calling, his family and friends honor him for his rich and genuine love. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, and found joy in hunting, fishing, gardening, motorcycles (especially Harley-Davisdon), and drawing.
Gary is survived by his wife of 13 years, Beverly; one son, Joshua; brother Buddy (Janet) Wagner; sister Joy Nicolai; grandchildren Christy (Tony) Spaulding, Garrett Popp, and Travis Franks; great-grandchildren McKenzie, Clayton, and Kassidee Popp; Anthony, Haley, Evan, and Ashton Franks; Tyler Richardson; and Adin and Faith McIntyre; brother- in-law Harry Offutt; and sister-in-law Maxine Mattingly; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-father, Howard Jr. Wagner; wife of 37 years, Linda Popp; son Christopher; brothers Barry Popp and Matt Wagner; sisters Ellen Offutt and Cathy Terrill; granddaughter Tara Franks; great-grandson Brayden Popp; and brother-in-law Michael Nicolai.
Services will be held at Rogers Funeral Home on Friday, April 28th at 12:00 pm, with visitation preceding at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the New Columbus Fairview Cemetery. Bishop Danny St. Clair will officiate the services.
Pallbearers will be Travis Franks, Matt Nicolai, Mark Nicolai, Michael Nicolai, Garrett Popp, Buddy Wagner, Jr., John Wagner, and Dustin Nicolai.
