Obituary of David S. Gauss, Jr.
It is with great sadness that the family of David Slater Gauss announces his passing, after a year-long battle with cancer, on Tuesday, October 22, 2018. Dave would have turned 60 years old on December 30th of this year.
Born in Haddonfield, New Jersey, Dave attended Trenton State College in Trenton, NJ, where he met his wife Diane. With a variety of interests, he was at one time employed by printing agencies doing work for the National Archives. Another employment Dave enjoyed was teaching Industrial Arts at Hamilton Township Schools in New Jersey. Dave and Diane formed D&D Marine through which they manufactured and sold aquarium products internationally. At the time of his passing, Dave was the General Manager at the Capital City Airport in Frankfort, Kentucky, a position he greatly enjoyed.
Dave had several hobbies and interests including photography, bowling, scuba diving, traveling, and piloting his Cessna C140, the same airplane his late father had owned. Most recently, Dave had enjoyed restoring a boat he docked on Lake Cumberland, Kentucky.
With his loving wife and best friend, Dave traveled all over the world including destinations in Europe, Asia, and North America. His favorite destinations were the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.
David will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife and best friend of 35 years, Diane Bayard Gauss, mother Alice McIlhenny Gauss, sister Lynne Gauss Savage, brother-in-law Richard W. Savage, nephews Richard D. Savage and Christopher R. Savage, and niece Kimberly Savage Eberly. He also leaves behind his faithful companion, Cassie.
