Roberta Hardesty Gray, 96, of Frankfort, passed into eternal life on April 29, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 22, 1929 in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Marion and Mary Hardesty. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James. E. Gray, Sr., and is survived by their three children, James E. Gray, Jr. (Pat), Ann Gray Moore (Revel), and Stephen J. Gray; eight grandchildren, Erin Smith (Jon), Kelly Burris (Dustin), Kevin Gray (Caroline), Jonathan Moore (Dannielle), Ryan Moore (Annie), Amy Toncray (Tyler), Michael Gray (Renee), and Sean Gray (Alisha); as well as 21 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sister Alice Wunderlich, and is also survived by a sister, Mary Lee Fischer of Louisville, and many nieces and nephews.
Roberta was a graduate of Loretto High School and Nazareth College in Louisville, Kentucky. She moved to Frankfort in 1954, where she became a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, remaining so for 71 years. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Ladies Auxiliary and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, volunteering for over 40 years. She enjoyed sewing, needlepointing, and playing Bridge, and was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan. Her greatest joy came from making Christmas stockings for all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to all the caregivers who touched Mom’s life with their kindness, care, and compassion, including Priscilla, Tina, Latrisha, Janet, Crystal and Amanda.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Good Shepherd Church on Tuesday, May 6th at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the Frankfort Cemetery. Father Charles Howell will officiate the services.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roberta’s grandsons Jonathan Moore, Ryan Moore, Kevin Gray, Michael Gray, and Sean Gray, as well as Jon Smith, Dustin Burris, and Tyler Toncray.
